The Center for Contemporary and Digital History (C²DH) in Luxembourg is thrilled to announce a new partnership between the project “Public History as a New Citizen Science of the Past” (PHACS) and Sard Center for History and Social Research (Shubra’s Archive) on community archives and practices of public history in Cairo (Egypt) and Shubra.
Since 2020, The FNR ATTRACT project PHACS has been developing public history and participatory models for interpreting and communicating the past beyond academia in Luxembourg and Europe. Led by Prof. Thomas Cauvin, the PHACS’ team has been proposing, developing, constructing, and evaluating innovative participatory public history frameworks to engage and empower groups, associations, and users.
In 2025, PHACS will continue tailoring this knowledge further with partner initiatives and institutions on the international level, focusing on the production of history with a public perspective beyond Europe.
Liaising with Dr. Mina Ibrahim and archivist Yasmin T. Ismail in Cairo, Dr. Myriam Dalal will manage this PHACS collaboration with Shubra’s Archive, which will feature a series of workshops, lectures, and hands-on activities throughout the coming year. The initiative aims to foster a deeper understanding of public history and community archives, with a special focus on the rich historical narratives of Cairo and Shubra.
We are particularly proud to highlight the inclusion of Arabic-speaking practitioners from the Arab world and North Africa, who will share their expertise and insights. This partnership promises to be a unique opportunity for knowledge exchange and cultural enrichment.
We invite public history practitioners, anthropologists, historians, archivists, curious students, and anyone interested in public history and community archives to join us in this exciting journey. Detailed schedules and registration information are regularly updated and made available on Shubra’s Archive social media platforms.
Stay tuned for more details on the upcoming events and how you can participate in this initiative.
