Ever since it was founded, the C²DH has served as a laboratory, a workshop for historical hermeneutics – a place to explore how the digital age is changing the ways in which we approach, interpret and tell history. This process, based on the philosophy of “thinkering”, involves research, source criticism and presenting our findings. Digital technologies are reshaping all these aspects and challenging us to rethink the very foundations of the historical discipline. It is against this backdrop that the research projects launched in recent years have led to innovative and creative results and new forms of public outreach, like the digital exhibitions Minett Stories and A Colônia luxemburguesa and the interactive website Framing Luxembourg. In 2023, the pioneering work by the C²DH’s researchers was recognised with a large number of national and international awards, including an FNR Award, three Luxembourg Design Awards, the Christine Whittaker Prize, the SHOT Dibner Award and the Richard Deswarte Prize in Digital History.
The 2023 Annual Report will introduce you to seven showcased projects – Gazengel, History@Play, Schueberfouer in the long 1960s, The traces of Robert Schuman, Tropy, Warlux and Witnessing the now – and will give you a wealth of information about the centre’s overall performance in 2023, with a particular focus on its research and outreach activities.
