Víctor Fernández Soriano holds a PhD in contemporary history from the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB). He completed studies in history and history of art at the Universidad Complutense (Madrid) and at the Scuola Normale Superiore (Pisa). In his thesis, he worked on how European relations with Southern-Europe dictatorships spurred the European Community to set up an agenda on human rights compliance. Before joining the C²DH, he was a postdoctoral researcher at the Fonds de la Recherche Scientifique (Belgium). He has also been a fellow at the Humboldt University (Berlin) and at the Academia Belgica (Rome).

His researches revolve around international human rights and transnational activism in the Long Seventies: their impact upon international and European law as well as their social and cultural dimensions. He has an interest on the audio-visual sources produced by human rights activists in the Long Seventies as the expression of global cultural changes and works on how to integrate them in today’s historical digital narratives.
