Current position

Christelle Al Haddad is a PhD candidate at the Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C²DH) at the University of Luxembourg.

Research

Working on the LUXSCRIBENS project under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Machteld Venken, she explores the evolution of letter writing in Luxembourg from the Napoleonic era to post-WWII (1800s—1950). Focusing on the unique multilingual aspect, the research combines studying letter evolution, language development, and Human Text Recognition (HTR) in a language lacking standardised writing until 1984.

The project's impact extends to the study of letter writing, network analysis, multilingualism, and adapted automatic transcription software. It contributes to understanding language use in a multilingual context, revealing connections to political realities and communication patterns.

Educational background

Christelle Al Haddad holds a bachelor’s degree in European cultures with a major in history and a master’s degree in European contemporary history from the University of Luxembourg.
