Exploring the History of Digital History

Exploring the History of Digital History

For as long as new preservation technologies and computing machines have been developed, the question of their utility and uptake in historical research practices has been debated. Yet, the very fact that historical knowledge production has always been affected by new and emerging technologies is often forgotten. Similarly, the fact that key epistemological and methodological questions in what we now call ‘digital history’ were already debated decades ago by earlier generations of computing historians (analogue and digital) is often overlooked.

WWII: Sowjetische ZwangsarbeiterInnen in Luxemburg

In her lecture, Inna Ganschow presents the conditions that made it possible for almost 4,000 Soviet women to be abducted to Luxembourg during the Second World War. In addition to the working and living conditions of the so-called Eastern workers and prisoners of war, the focus of the evening is also on relations with the Luxembourg civilian population. It also deals with the forced returns to the Soviet Union and the fate of those affected after the war.

It outlines the work that has already been done to address these questions, as web archiving begins to move out of its establishment phase, and then discusses seven key principles of good governance
