European research grant awarded for research into Europe's Audiovisual Heritage Online, coordinated by prof. dr. E. Müller, Utrecht University

On the 23-24 November 2017, Francesco Beretta (CNRS/Université de Lyon, LARIAH) and George Bruseker (FORTH, Center for Cultural Heritage - Institute of Computer Science, Heraklion) invited several research groups from digital history, who deal with the production of historical data to Lyon. The gathered researchers started a consortium that will enable the interoperability of their historical data.

Debates on the role of museums and their place in society are not new. Though museums have become more visitor-oriented over the past decades, a lot of potential remains unused. In this blogpost, I would like to discuss how museums can be places of "shared authority" and public debate.

A distinguishing feature of DH is the collaboration between humanists and computational researchers. As part of my PhD research on digital history practices, I therefore am conducting an online survey to investigate the practices of collaboration. Ad Pollé (Europeana) and Frank Drauschke (Facts & Files) will give an overview of the Europeana 14-18 and Transcribathon projects and their potential for research and education.

The paper illustrates how interpretation is supported and shaped by metaphors embedded in an interface.
