Die Geschichte des Reparierens wird meist als Niedergangsgeschichte erzählt: Das sich wandelnde Verhältnis zwischen Anschaffungs- und Reparaturkosten von Konsumgütern hätte dazu geführt, dass immer weniger repariert wurde und private Konsumenten stattdessen direkt neue Geräte angeschafft hätten. Als Wendepunkt hin zur sogenannten Wegwerfgesellschaft werden für Westeuropa die 1970er und 1980er Jahre genannt. Am Beispiel Luxemburgs soll der Wan- del des Reparaturfeldes für diesen Zeitraum näher untersucht werden.

FR. Dans cet article, j’examine les corrélations entre crise économique, changements de pratiques d’éloignement des étrangers et création de catégories d’indésirables. Pour ce faire, je me penche sur les expériences individuelles des étrangers polonais pour voir comment le rapatriement des étrangers est devenu un moyen d’éloigner les étrangers pour des raisons politiques, alors qu’il était destiné à éloigner les étrangers qui se retrouvaient sans moyens de subsistance à la suite de la crise économique des années 1930.

The Banque Générale du Luxembourg (BGL), established in 1919, is one of Luxembourg’s iconic financial institutions. Drawing on the bank’s private archives, this article explores the many architectural changes made to the BGL headquarters over the years, ranging from extensions and renovations to new building projects. Throughout the bank’s history – and especially from its establishment until the late 1980s –, the buildings that housed its head office in the centre of Luxembourg City went through multiple transformations.

Text Reuse reveals meaningful reiterations of text in large corpora. Humanities researchers use text reuse to study, e.g., the posterior reception of influential texts or to reveal evolving publication practices of historical media. This research is often supported by interactive visualizations which highlight relations and differences between text segments. In this paper, we build on earlier work in this domain.

Durant la seconde moitié du vingtième siècle, il a été souvent écrit que les activités d’orpaillage de l’Ardenne belge remontaient au second âge du Fer. Cette attribution chronologique ne repose en réalité sur aucune observation scientifiquement démontrée. Par contre, une récente étude cartographique a mis en évidence la superposition des limites alto médiévales du domaine de l’abbaye de Stavelot Malmedy avec les tracés des ruisseaux aurifères du massif de Stavelot.

We have entered the “age of abundance”: a huge number of historical sources – books, documents, pamphlets and media of all sorts – have by now been digitised, and the amount of digital-born material is growing at an even faster pace. This boom is paired with new forms of access: in principle, digital sources that are made available online can be studied from anywhere in the world, and powerful digital tools allow us to study the big data of the past in a new fashion.
